what is it?

how i work is an interactive system designed to help young people…

…discover how they learn, process and communicate best, while building confidence for future employment.

Across seven themed zones, learners complete adaptive, gamified activities tailored to their interests, preferences and thinking styles.

At the end of every zone, learners unlock a personalised support card filled with strategies that truly reflect what works for them - and once all seven zones are complete, a summary support card draws the whole picture together. At its heart, how i work is designed to recognise and support the strengths and needs of autistic individuals - while being useful for anyone who benefits from a more personalised approach.

These insights are backed by academic research and can be shared with careers advisors, teachers or employers, giving them practical, evidence-based guidance on how to support each learner effectively.

From sensory needs to communication preferences and daily rhythms, every task unlocks deeper self-understanding - and more tailored advice. With encouragement from the in-built assistant, learners feel supported at every step as they shape their journey toward work, life and independence - on their own terms.

Adaptive by design

Every activity responds to the individual - the questions asked, the examples used, the pace it moves at.

A card for every zone

Each zone ends with its own support card, and completing all seven unlocks a summary card - eight in total, all owned by the learner.

Dashboards for grown-ups

Teachers, parents and advisors gain a clear, academically grounded view - with permission, always.

the journey

Seven zones. One map of how you work.

for the people around them

how i work doesn't just support young people - it equips the adults around them too.

As learners complete engaging, adaptive activities, the system quietly builds a support card at the end of each zone - and a summary card once all seven are complete - filled with insights into how that young person experiences the world.

Teachers, parents and careers advisors can be given access (with permission) to these dynamic dashboards, gaining a clear, academically grounded understanding of each individual's sensory needs, motivation drivers, communication preferences and daily rhythm.

This means more than just information - it's practical, ready-to-use support advice. From knowing when a young person is most focused, to recognising triggers and effective calming tools, how i work helps you plan better, communicate smarter and guide them toward employment with real confidence.

Whether you're preparing a classroom, interview or careers meeting, the insights from how i work are there when you need them - tailored, trusted and designed to help every young person thrive.

who is it for?

how i work is designed to support everyone involved in helping young people thrive.

Especially those with autism - to thrive, communicate their needs and move confidently toward employment. Whether you're a learner, teacher, parent or employer, this system gives you the insights and tools you need to succeed together.

For students and young people

This system is for you. Whether you're in school, college, or looking for your first job, how i work helps you figure out what makes you tick - from what you enjoy and how you learn, to what support helps most when things get tricky.

Through fun, interactive activities, you'll unlock your own support card at the end of every zone - and a summary card once you've completed all seven - filled with ideas and strategies that genuinely work for you. You'll also learn how to communicate your needs clearly, so others know how best to help. It's all about understanding yourself better - and using that understanding to shape your future.

For parents and carers

As a parent or carer, you want your child to be understood and supported in ways that truly reflect who they are. how i work helps your young person build self-awareness, confidence and practical tools they can use now and in the future.

You can support them as they complete each zone - from exploring their interests and sensory preferences to developing strategies that work for them. The interactive activities are designed to be engaging and accessible, with space for you to encourage, discuss or simply be present as they reflect and grow.

As your child progresses, they'll build up a support card for each zone, and a summary card at the end, which they can choose to share with you. This gives you insight into how they experience the world - and equips you with the language and strategies to advocate with and for them across education, life and work.

For teachers and careers advisors

how i work gives professionals powerful tools to support autistic and neurodivergent learners in a meaningful, personalised way. As students work through each zone, you gain access to a detailed, visually intuitive support dashboard - but only if the learner chooses to share it.

This dashboard presents practical, academically informed advice: from sensory preferences and emotional triggers to communication styles and work-based coping tools. You'll get clear guidance on how to support each learner in the classroom or during career conversations. It turns “what works” into something visible, shareable and actionable.

For employers

how i work helps bridge the gap between neurodivergent talent and inclusive workplaces. For employers looking to support autistic staff or applicants, the personalised support cards - one for each zone, plus an overall summary - offer clear, actionable information: how a person works best, what accommodations make a difference and what motivates them.

By understanding each individual's sensory, communication and work style preferences, you can reduce misunderstandings, unlock potential and create a more inclusive and productive environment for all.

why use it?

how i work is more than just a careers tool…

…it's a personalised journey of self-discovery designed to help people, especially those with autism, understand how they learn, thrive and succeed best.

Built for real-life support - not just careers

While many systems focus only on job titles or qualifications, how i work starts earlier: helping users identify their sensory needs, communication preferences, motivation style and thinking patterns. These insights are essential for building confidence - in school, at home and eventually in the workplace.

Personalised, not generic

No two people are the same. That's why every activity in how i work adapts to the individual - from the questions asked to the examples used. Whether someone is into music, football or quiet thinking spaces, the platform responds in ways that feel familiar and motivating.

Backed by research, designed for practice

The system is built on academic and psychological research, but it's practical at its core. The outputs - a support card for every zone, a summary card and a dashboard - give learners, educators and employers real, actionable advice they can use to support each individual more effectively.

Accessible and inclusive by design

how i work was shaped with and for autistic users. It's accessible, visual and breaks complex ideas into manageable steps. But it's also helpful for anyone who benefits from clear structure, visual prompts and reflective learning - including those without a diagnosis.

Supports conversations that matter

Whether you're a teacher, careers advisor, parent or employer, how i work gives you a shared language to understand and support the learner. It helps take the pressure off young people by clearly showing what helps - and what doesn't.

Future-focused, confidence-first

Our goal isn't to push someone into a career they're not ready for - it's to help them understand how they work, so they can make confident decisions. Every step is about building the self-knowledge that leads to independence, empowerment and employment.

where it came from

From an SBRI challenge to a live, AI-adaptive platform

Originally developed through an SBRI (Small Business Research Initiative) project, tackling the challenge of supporting young people with autism into meaningful, paid employment.

This early work led to KLEOS Software: Careers, a strengths-based prototype that laid the foundation for personalised, inclusive guidance.

Since then, rapid advances in Generative AI have opened up new opportunities to tailor learning, communication and self-advocacy in ways never before possible. In response, the platform has been reimagined, redeveloped from the ground up and relaunched as how i work - a dynamic, data-informed system that adapts to each learner's preferences and needs.

Designed and developed by DAMGEO LTD, the tool combines academic rigour with cutting-edge technology to help neurodivergent individuals shape their path to work and independence.
